Every new employee during orientation got not
only an understanding of zero waste program,
but of our whole sustainability program and
how that fit in.
Some other employee engagement things we
did... is we'd host an electronic recycling drive
and somebody would come to me and say, "Hey,
I have this TV. I can't put it on my curb, you know,
could I bring it here and recycle it." So we
decided to offset the cost of electronic recycling
and host a couple drives every single year.
We also had a fantastic program when we
updated our LED lighting in the building. We went
ahead and thought, "Hey we're doing it here," so
we went ahead and also subsidized LED lighting
for our employees.
As part of that program, they actually had to
bring in their old CFLs and their old and
incandescent bulbs to get those free and
discounted light bulbs. And you know we're a
small business, we only have 50 employees but
through that program we were able to recycle
450 light bulbs, so we were very excited about
that.
